The Solutions to Deforestation
There are many solutions to deforestation. Many of these solutions
may be apart of your everyday lives, or something that you could easily change.
Allow yourself to recognize some of them and take action.

Avoid Single-use packagingSingle-use packaging has become a part of our everyday lives. Whether this packaging is from individually wrapped snacks, disposable razors, plastic cups, straws, and silverware, it only gets used once. The use of these products causes increased issues with deforestation.
Rather than using products wrapped in single-use packaging, choose compostable and biodegradable products. Over time, they will break down naturally and will not sit in land fills.

Choose Recycled ProductsYou can help lessen the effects of deforestation by choosing recycled products. Rather than throwing all of your bags, bottles and paper into the garbage, you can utilize them in the future. Or, recycle products so that they can be created into something new in the future.

Diet ChangesA major aspect of deforestation comes from what we eat. Many products that we consume today contain some sort of soybean, palm oil or meat product.
With meat products being one of the biggest causes of deforestation due to cattle ranches, reducing the amount of meat you consume or eating more of a plant-based diet by reducing your consumption of animal products, you can help protect forests and nature. You could also plant your own garden to help eat more sustainably and allow for fewer trees to be cut down for the purpose of producing large-scale agricultural businesses. |
Raise AwarenessOne of the major ways to help others recognize the effects of deforestation is to create awareness. Whether you talk to friends, family, or your community, creating this general awareness around deforestation can help solve it.
You could hold a gathering, talk to them, or even teach young kids that you know about the importance of trees. If kids understand the importance of trees and why we depend on them to survive, they may be more likely to talk about it to their friends and parents. |
Plant A treeOne of the most important and easiest ways to solve deforestation is to plant a tree. This does not mean that you have to plant a large number of trees, but rather begin with one.
You could plant a tree in your backyard, where you work or in other places important to you to help contribute to the spread of green cover. One completely mature tree has the ability to absorb up to 48lbs of carbon dioxide emissions. Once your planted tree matures, it will be able to absorb more carbon dioxide from our atmosphere to prevent further climate change and deforestation. |
