Steps to planting a tree
Steps and Notes
- Step One: Plant your tree where it will get lots of sunshine and have room to grow.
- Do not plant your tree seedling directly next to a house or other building that may inhibit its growth.
- Step Two: Dig a hole 10 inches deep by 8 inches wide. Then, find the tree's root collar and plant the tree at this depth.
- The tree's root collar is a spot on the tree's stem that is just above the roots where the stem changes color or becomes larger in comparison to the rest of the stem.
- Step Three: Make sure your seedling roots are hanging freely in the hole and are not twisted.
- Twisted roots can cause damage and can grow around the other roots of the tree!
- Step Four: Gently pack loose soil around your tree's roots. Be sure to give the seedling enough water!
- Step Five: Place mulch around the base of the tree seedling.
- Placing mulch around the base of the tree allows the soil to hold water better.
